Hello Everyone, Here are some pics of the foundry furnace I’ve been building to melt aluminum and brass. I started with a kit from Lionel’s Lab, which I found to be of very high quality and very easy to assemble. I then built my cement forms and added some VersaFlo 60 refractory cement, which is a bit of overkill, but gives me the option of casting the odd bit of steel in addition to the softer metal

I will be running mine with propane, but there are many different fuels you can use and ways to build a metal casting furnace (including some oddball methods like building them into Pringles cans and flowerpots!) To see another very cool build, be sure to check out Jake von Slatt’s waste oil furnace that’s mounted on an old snowblower frame!
